Duplicate Finder & Cleanup for Google Photos
Effective: 2026-11-01. Last updated: 2026-11-01.
This policy applies to Duplicate Finder & Cleanup for Google Photos version 2.9.8 and later versions distributed on the Chrome Web Store until this page is updated.
Duplicate Finder & Cleanup for Google Photos (“the extension”) is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or produced by Google.
The extension helps you find duplicate, similar, low-quality and other unwanted photos in your own Google Photos library and select them for review.
Summary
Everything the extension does happens inside your own browser. The developer does not receive, collect, store, sell or share any of your data. There are no accounts, servers, analytics, advertising or tracking.
What the extension reads
Only while you have photos.google.com open and start a scan, the extension reads, from the Google Photos page and Google’s own image servers:
- the small preview images (thumbnails) of the photos and videos in the view you scan;
- each item’s identifier, date and type, as shown by the Google Photos page;
- the original file name that Google’s image servers report with each thumbnail;
- for photos that appear in results, and for videos during a scan when you turn on “Compare videos for duplicates”, the details the Google Photos Info panel shows: file size, resolution, storage use, camera, source folder and Google’s content key. The extension requests them from photos.google.com, signed in as you, the same way the Google Photos web app does.
From the thumbnails it computes visual fingerprints and simple measurements (brightness, contrast, sharpness) to group similar photos and suggest which ones to review.
Where data goes
- Thumbnails are downloaded directly from Google’s servers (
*.googleusercontent.com,photos.fife.usercontent.google.com) using your existing Google Photos sign-in in the browser. They are processed in memory and are not saved. - The results of your latest scan (item identifiers, dates, file names, fingerprints, measurements, file details and your review marks) are saved in Chrome’s local extension storage on your computer, so the results survive a page reload. They are replaced by your next scan and removed when you uninstall the extension.
- No data is sent to the developer or to any third party. The extension loads no remote code.
What the extension changes
The extension only selects photos in the Google Photos page when you ask it to, and moves them to the Google Photos trash only after you confirm. Items in the trash can be restored from Google Photos for the period Google keeps them there. The extension never empties the trash and never deletes anything permanently.
Donations
This version shows no donation link. If a later version adds one, opening it will take you to an external website with its own privacy policy, and the extension will not pass any of your data to that site.
Limited Use
The use of information received from Google Photos pages and Google’s image servers adheres to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. The data is used only to provide the extension’s single purpose — finding and reviewing unwanted photos in your library — and is not transferred, sold, used for advertising, or used to determine credit-worthiness or for lending purposes.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version will be published here with a new date, and any change in how data is used will be shown in the extension before it takes effect.
